By the late 60s everyone was too cool for variety, with "cool" being hippie-oriented and the old-style song 'n' dance 'n' tease going out of favor... No more Beach, innocent youth or even Elvis flicks... The film musical, a staple of the 1950s for Sexy Glamorously Dominant WOmen, had all but disappeared... Even Elvis had to make a comeback on tv... And on the tube Dean Martin, of course, was still dialing up old style varie-tease, and Joey, Ann-M & Raquel showed up often on many programs... In fact much of tv had many variety shows with young girls in mini-skirts and boots, but largely as background atmosphere dancing aimlessly to psychedelic rock...
