Joan Collins' greatest strength as an actress is how believable she can be in
utterly ludicrous situations... It's a toss-up between what's more absurd: Eli
Wallach as a beatnik saxophonist or her as a beatnik stripper... And the
"beatnik" aspect is emphasized in the film, for no apparent purpose other than a
lame attempt to be relevantly hip... Joan The Bone doesn't immediately call to
mind the fleshy qualities of a Stripper, but that's where the "beatnik" part
plays -- she's so counter-culture she's a Skinny Stripper... And a key
plot point is that a "square" is thoroughly enthralled with her hipster skinny
stripping... And on-stage alone, she incredibly achieves the erotic effect... Which is immediately
blown by Eli jumping on stage, dropping to his knees and honking his horn...
