1957: Silk Stockings

JANIS PAIGE

as "Peggy Dayton"

Peggy's a fun gal who likes the finer clothes in life...

She's been charged with to distract /detain / beguile this dowdy composer...

She does this by stripping down to her undergarments and singing "Satin & Silk"...

"Have a whiff of the is armpit, bi fella..."

1950s musicals offered a plethora of Glamorous Showgirls wiggling & jiggling about in skimpy costumes with "Satin & Silk" being an ultimate relish of this sort of erotic entertainment... The clothing fetish is the driving logic behind Silk Stockings-- repressed, materialistically-denied communists crave to touch the sensuous, luxurious fabrics of decadent capitalists... And few are as overtly sensuous and decadent as Janis Paige's "Peggy Dayton..." Nothing subtle about her here -- her goal is to tease a man she wants something from out of his mind and does so by forcing him to watch her dress and undress, ultimately breaking into a song about under-garments that would break any man down... This vamping is similar to "Whatever Lola Wants," from Damn Yankees, but while Gwen Verdon plays that totally for a joke, Janis Paige, tho certainly comic, more convincingly evokes eroticism and FEmale Dominance...

Cyd Charisse.. Having her moment wallowing in the glory of silk...

If you're a guy with any hidden / latent tendencies for cross-dressing / wearing-touching women's clothing -- this movie will bring them out full-blown... There's been reports of cross-dresser clubs where a bunch of guys dress up like gals in the finest of satins and silks, sitting around all dolled up watching this movie on DVD... It's kind of like a circle jerk, except the jerks don't want to stain their luxurious threads...
