1953: Tarzan and the She-Devil
For a She-Devil she's awfully nice, and
for Monique van Vooren this role can only be thought of as a missed opportunity.
If she had the acting chops she could have defined an early classic Dominatrix,
but her thespian abilities, combined with a weak script and weaker direction,
makes for a portrayal that was so common in 50s B-Pictures -- a woman who has
potential threat in the movie title / poster, but in actuality is ineffectual.
She does look good, though, and the basics for a FemmeDomme are here,
particularly with her lackey who fawns over her while she dismisses him in favor
of he-men Tarzan and Raymond Burr. (Raymond Burr? Burr played a number of
heavies in the 50s, and when we say heavy we just don't mean his character.)
It
looks like she's going whip the Ape-Man, but she actually falls for him...
She certainly looks tough enough...
But really only gets mean with her 2nd-in-command...
